The Ton Farm

The Ton Farm is a beautiful farmstead set in the Wye Valley just outside Hay.

Jones and Fraser were enlisted initially for a re-roofing  job on a dilapidated stable block. As work begun and the building condition assessed, a decision was made to totally restore all aspects of this building.Starting with the roof the team were able to keep the original oak trusses and purlins, and with the use of a jacking system lifted these up in situ and scarfed in new wall plates. All of the rafters were subsequently replaced and a whole new cut roof was built on to the intersecting calf cote. The roof was finished with a  reclaimed, welsh slate tiles interrupted by seven conservation roof lights and two chimneys.

Internally the barn was insulated with sheepswool and the inner roof clad with rough sawn, limewashed, pine sarking. Stone work saw extensive lime pointing, limewashing also the relaying of cobbles and flagstones.

The main open hall area received a suspended, medieval style, large board, insulated oak floor, thus creating a  soft light, warm space with admirable acoustic properties.

The Barn is now used for healing retreats, art workshops and music sessions- see
